Greets The Birds Around java Island
"Never forget history,” pondered late Soekarno, the first President of Indonesia. As an organization originated from a birdwatching club, Kutilang Indonesia Foundation also tries not to forget its origin. Once a month, Kutilang invites birdwatchers to 'greet' birds in their natural habitat through Java Bird Walk (JBW) program.

Every month, birdwatching enthusiasts are willingly crammed under the scorching sun inside the open container of PPSJ's truck that carries them to birdwatching spots around Yogyakarta. Friendly atmosphere and fresh jokes always accompanies them.

“I enjoy this activity 'cause I can meet people and watch beautiful birds,” said Bintang, a regular participant who is also a student at Keputran VIII elementary school.

The locations varied every month around Java Island. With many JBW sites chosen, make this program as a monitoring method for IBA (Important Bird Area) areas indirectly without leaving its characteristic, relax and fun. So that, JBW has three functions: as a bird conservation campaign, environmental education and as a monitoring method.

During the activity, participants are divided into several groups, each with a guide. These groups then go into different birdwatching routes. On encountering birds, the participants will stop and watch the birds. The participants will also write down all the encountered species.

Jogja Bird Walk is indeed a fascinating activity. “I am glad to see bird directly. Up till now, I only see them on TV,” Dinda explained. JBW also opens a new perspective. “I go home with a new knowledge,” she added.
